What Is Life Transition Counselling?

A steady place to land when life shifts.

Life transition counselling is therapy for the stretch of time when something big changes and you haven't yet found your footing. It isn't about fixing you. It's about giving the change room to be felt, understood and carried.

A transition can be welcome, unwelcome, or both at once. Either way, it often asks you to let go of an old version of your life before a new one has taken shape. That in-between can feel disorienting, even when the change is one you wanted.

Life transitions therapy with me is collaborative. You bring the change, and we work out together what you need to move through it. Sessions are available online and in person in Lillooet, BC.

Life Changes We Work Through Together

Some you saw coming. Some arrived without asking.

Life transitions counselling supports people through the major shifts that reshape their inner world and daily life. If a season of change feels overwhelming, disorienting or emotionally heavy, this is a place to slow down and make sense of it.

Changes in family and relationships

Becoming a new parent, divorce or separation, dating again, blended families, marriage, or caring for aging parents and elderly family members. These shifts rearrange roles and relationships, and they often ask you to grieve one version of life while building another.

Changes in body, work and stage of life

Perimenopause or menopause, career changes, retirement, and the move from youth into adulthood. Each one brings its own grief, uncertainty and questions about who you are now and what comes next.

Changes in identity

Sometimes the shift is less about what happened and more about who you are becoming. Identity loss, role changes, relationship strain and the pressure to "hold it all together" tend to arrive quietly. Counselling for coping with major life changes offers a steady, grounded space to understand what's shifting, what's being asked of you, and how to find your footing as you move forward.

How Life Transition Therapy Works

The client holds the wisdom. My role is to help you find it.

I don't lead with a single method. We start with a safe, non-judgmental space to say what is actually going on. Then we gently trace the patterns underneath: what this change is touching, what it echoes from earlier in your life, and which parts of you are pulling in different directions.

From there, I draw on parts work, gestalt therapy, DBT and CBT as they're useful, so you leave with skills you can practise both in session and in real life.

If you're local and would like a less talk-based route, equine-assisted counselling is also available in Lillooet.

Why Work With Me?

A small, steady practice rooted in real experience.

Trained and credentialed. I'm Karmin Manning, a Master Practitioner in Clinical Counselling (MPCC-Provisional) with the CPCA. I hold a Diploma of Applied Psychology and Clinical Counselling from KCPC, and my full designation is pending.

Grounded in lived experience. I'm in my third year of private practice, following three years of community crisis support work and an Aboriginal Community Support Worker diploma. I also live and work on a farm in Lillooet, so I understand how much change rural life can hold.

Reach beyond Lillooet. I see clients in person in Lillooet and online across BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. If you're looking for life transition counselling in Alberta or anywhere else in that range, you're welcome here.

Genuinely small. This is a solo practice, so you work with me from the first conversation onward.
